Two things you might try: 

- Set the working directory to the dir where netbeans is installed. 
I've had problems in the past with shell scripts that could only 
be started from the directory they were in...

- In the menu editor, activate the "start in terminal" option
That way you see the startup ouput (if any), and any error messages.
(At least IIRC that used to work, I have problems with my 
menu editor so I couldn't check.)
