PKCS#11 based hardware tokens are now coming to USA too:

If KDE is not going to support this, this might become a selection factor for
desktops. It's not just one app, but needs an integrated framework that takes
time to get implemented and polished in all libs and apps. That's likely years
than months. Firefox/Thunderbird/Gnome already have a long head start in this
game.
