I've always found it to be a valiable source and the most comprehensiv archiv of KDE-Applications. Looking for an application, I've always checked this site first. Even more, I've added my own application there and encouraged two more developers to publish their application at this site. One of them I submitted myself being thankful for Andreas' corrections language-wise etc. Not only didn't I find it disturbing that QT-Applications found their place there as well, I found that quite useful. I also found his binary packages so useful that I decided to subscribe for a whole year. So I'd like to say thanks to Andreas even though there have been hickups regarding accessibilty of the site. And I hope he finds the means of bringing his site up to life again. (And these hickups where the reason I havn't been concerned regarding what has happened to a.k.c until about a week ago.) Unfortunately, searching for an explanation of why this site is down wasn't that easy. If it had'nt been for a.k.c, I still wouldn't know of quite a few useful applications! As Waldo says "A puppy is not just for Christmas". I don't think these interruptions of the site's accessibility are really good for KDE's image. Long term encouragement is needed from a maintainer of such a site. But I think Andreas has just shown that! At least that's my impression. Still I'm in favour of an a.k.o, espacially since every now and then I've accedently tried to access the application pool via a.k.o.. But what is important for me as a user: -high availability -large and comprehensive selection of KDE applications - I personally would like to see OS-QT-Applications in there as well - I personally would'nt mind to see com-Applications referenced as long as they are marked as such and identifiable as such easily in the overview(unlike the Zaurus application database) -binary packages even if they are accessible via a subcription schema only -a good search functionality -plausible categories -_the complete database from a.k.c_ as a developer: -access to modify the data of my application(s) -proofreading before publishing -a reasonable fast publishing process To sum up my mail: Let me encourage you to cooperate with Andreas or vice versa Andreas please cooperate with the KDE-people! And if needed, place a call for donations. I'm sure a lot of people will respond. (The success of this kind of call for donations from the SelfHTML-Team "http://selfaktuell.teamone.de/sonst/spenden.htm" gaining for EUR 5000 getting EUR 18000+ makes me strongly beliefe this to be a success.) Thanks for listening! Moppel _______________________________________________ kde-www mailing list kde-www@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kde-www
