I don't think it should require IMAP to behave like this. E.g. in Mozilla 
Messanger, if you choose the options "Keep mail on server" and "Delete on 
server when deleting locally" the messages are kept on the server until you 
deleted them individually locally - when Mozilla sends a delete request for 
that particular message to the POP server. 

However I'd prefer to use KMail because it looks and feels nicer, loads more 
quickly and uses AA fonts.

With KMail, I can tell it not to remove messages from the server when it 
downloads them (uncheck "Delete messages from server") but I can't figure out 
how to tell it to delete a message from the server when I delete it locally.

IMAP is no good to me really as many ISPs (including mine) don't support it.

If this can't be done in KMail, I would strongly recommend it as a feature in 
a future release, as without this small function it is impossible to remove 
messages from the server once they are downloaded.
