Subject:    KDE 2.1.1 crashes on start

I've just upgraded to KDE 2.1.1.

When I start KDE I get crash warnings like the following:

KCrash: crashing.... crashRecursionCounter = 2
KCrash: application name: ksplash path = <unknown>

etc. for ksplash, kcminit, knotify, kinternet, ksmserver.  Then KDE crashes
completely and exits.

Any hints? Nothing has turned up in any searches.

I am using Suse 7.1/Linux 2.2.19/XFree86 4.03/
kdelibs 2.1.2/qt-experimental-2.3.0
