sure, but there are a couple of caveats. first, on many systems you 
need to do xhost + localhost for this to work in a terminal from a 
regular user login, which has, albeit briefly, some security 
vulnerabilities.

what kmenuedit su root does is allow you to edit the system-wide 
kmenu; as a user your access is only to your personal menu.
