Thanks! That did it. Detailed comments follow:

I guess that the "bit" bit could have clued me in to using chmod on
something. But the "pppd binary must be installed with" bit would have taken
me down a path that would have been quite different. Looking at it now it
makes sense. But I was thinking of having to do some sort of recompilation
with some sort of flag set ...or something. Also, although I've used chmod a
fair bit, it has always been to do things like chmod 775 <filename>. I don't
remember seeing the four digit usage. I'll have to read up on that "bit."

It's gotta be for SOHO. People would PAY for packages that would make it easy
for them.

That must be either Redhat or O'Reilly. I just used the CD that came with the
book "Learning Redhat Linux."

Well, the fact that I'm using Linux at all, or trying to, means that I agree
with you to a great extent. My MS Windows systems crash on the average a
couple of times per day. But usability is really the overall parameter which
will determine the success of the system. And that includes both reliability
(negative for MS Windows) and ease of use at whatever state of knowledge of
the system you're at (starts out pretty positive for MS Windows gets worse
with more knowledge, starts out pretty negative for Linux gets better with
more knowledge -- and I think that KDE, and others, are doing a grand job of
making that start more positive.)

Cheers!
