This has nothing to do with multiple CPUs, and more to do with the multiple
console than you realise. Multiple consoles is probably exactly what you
have to tackle. I can't be sure exactly what kind of console driver you are
using, but I expect when you run X it talks to your console driver and
runs inside one of the consoles - what you need to do is make sure your
console driver is configured so that it can devote a second console to X.

Once you've done that you can run X with startx, or with xdm, or with kdm,
or with a pentagram, three black roosters and a crumpet...
