Looks promising, however, I get the messages
connection to ':1.0' refused by server
Client is not authorized to connect to Server

I'm sure that I should know how to resolve that (I seem to think that I've
seen that addressed elsewhere...)- something to do with xhost, perhaps?

to start a second session:
login on a text login screen (f1 to f6)
and use the command:

startx -- :1.0

if your session was on f7, then this new session will be started on f8
