Subject: FTP with KDE 1.1.1

I installed KDE 1.1.1 (using the RPM) as soon as it came out. (mainly with the
hope of some enhancement to kwrite).

I had been using KDE 1.1. The way FTP worked was great. I could treat files
on a remote server essentially like they were on my local hard drive. After
installing 1.1.1, the FTP function in kfm and kwrite (I suspect that the latter
uses the former) doesn't work for uploads. It seems to try, then get stuck.
The result is that the file that was already there is destroyed.

This is a real "show-stopper" for me, since the main thing I was using my
Linux system for was editing files for web sites which are located on a remote
server. I could probably use some sort of command line instructions for the
FTP. But I really cannot afford the time it takes to type (and re-type, since
I'm prone to typos) commands, especially including long path and filenames.

I've checked the bug reports, and find that there is one on this topic (1266).
So I've gone back to my crash-every-few-hours Windows95 machine,
returning wistfully to the KDE site a couple of times a day in the hope I would
see a resolution to this problem posted. But, after checking back numerous
times, I've found nothing has been done to resolve it.

It occurs to me that it must not be a universal problem, or more people would
have complained; and the bug's status would have been raised to the level where
it would have been resolved.

Perhaps there is something which I need to (re?)configure. Does anyone have a
solution?

Cheers!

Mike Green
