thanks for your idears. I have figured out how to run it now.
as i don't have .xinitrc or .xsession in $HOME so i edit the file 
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc 

and replace /etc/X11/xinit/Xclients with /usr/local/kde/bin/startkde

it works fine when i run startx
