The Next thing to ensure (if yr running any version of RedHat) is to make
sure you dont have a default gateway defined.

to see if this is the case put a tail -f on the system logfile ie tail -f
/var/log/messages the open a new window and try to start kppp again. You
should see a sting of messages relating to ppp ( I am assuming that you have
compiled your kernel with ppp AND slip support (you must have slip as well
even if yr only intending to use ppp)).

If you see a messages such as "not replacing default route xxxxx" then have
a look at the file /etc/sysconfig/network. look for two lines GATEWAY=XXXX
GATEWAYDEV=eth0 if this is the case the delete everything to the right of
the "=" and save the file. Then cd in to the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
dir and check that same dosent appear in and of the XXX-cfg files, if it
does just delete the line.

Once you have done this the cd /etc/rc.d/init.d and run ./network stop and
the ./network start. (you should come out of kde to do this).

Then get back into kde and try kppp.

If you are still having problems it would be useful to see the trace from
the tail -f you put on the syslog.

Best of luck

Rob
