Congratulations on a job well done. Beta2 is much more functional that Beta1.
Here are some things I have found while using KDE.
1. Whenever I start kde the following line below displays just before
starting the audio server.
$ Could not attach shm.
$ Starting audio server with talk id 385.
Does anyone know what "shm" is?
2. When ever I go into Display Settings -> Screensaver, none of the screen
saver list in the list box, but I can select a screen saver by clioking
on the scrollbar and then clicking inside the listing box. The screen
saver displays inside the mini terminal above. Secondly when I exit the
screen saver setup, I get a core dump.
3. The Mail Client doesn't always work. It has locked up my entire kde
X session. When I exit Mail Client, I get a core dump here as well. My
other question is why Mail Client was included in any of the Beta
releases. Now please don't get me wrong, Mail client is nice, but to
me this program should be considered unstable. I haven't quite figured
out why mail client was included, but kppp which was working before
Beta1, was not included?
Other programs that core dump on exit are Calculator, Image Viewer
and Kpaint. I haven't tried all programs in the distribution. However
Terminal, Zip and Knotes do not core dump.
TO AVOID ANY PROSECUTION, HERE IS MY SETUP
486 DX66 (AMD) 20 MEG RAM. LINUX 2.0.30, Redhat 4,2. LIBC 5.3.12.
My .xinitrc has "startkde".
KDE installed via rpm's.
My .bash_profile
export KDEDIR=/opt/kde
PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin:/opt/bin:$KDEDIR/bin
