Subject: rpm -e = package not installed???

I installed the binary rpm for the beta1 kde package and I used "--prefix"
as per the instructions on the website to specify my own path for
installation as it wanted to use /opt/kde and I would (have) preferred
/usr/local/kde.

Anyway, the install died toward the end of installing kdesupport package.
(I don't have the exact output but there was definitely something hardcoded
to use /opt/kde (i.e., toward the end rpm ignored my --prefix to
override.)) Also, due to this the ln's were created in the directory I was
issuing the command from!

So I decided to uninstal with "rpm -e" and reinstal w/o the --prefix but
rpm says "Package not installed." Can't do a query or verify or anything.
Yet, when I force an upgrade (w/o the --prefix) all seems to go fine and at
the end there is mention of removing of old packages although
/usr/local/kde still exists!

Well, everything is running well now, I'm really impressed with kde! But I
would like to know why I'm getting these messages and especially how to
correctly clean up the rpm database, indexes, /usr/local etc... that
resulted from the initial problem. Anyone else encounter this before?

Thanks~
~Jason
