Personally, I would appreciate the option to have file/folder access. I 
understand it as an alternative way to the create a playlist. You either 
generate it from artists, albums, videos etc. - or per "load from..." (disc, 
cloud, tube etc.). Audacious handles it very comfortable with the option to 
"load a folder" (e.g. the complete content), and play it.

First of all there should be an indicator why, for instance, the list of 
artists is empty in case Baloo is disabled. You could place an icon on the 
accordion panels that shows the state (indexed, in progress, disabled).
For folder access another panel would make sense. The panel contains of a 
button to load stuff, and shows it when done.

I'm sure the people on the VDG forums will be far more creative than me ;-).
