this is one of the several reasons we are introducing a file manager (dolphin) 
in addition to a browser.

it's really not possible to please everyone since browsing and managing are 
rather different modes of operation. some people want everything embedded in 
a window (browsing) with the option to edit; some people want everything 
opened in a separate app (open == edit). the former want a browser, the 
latter a manager.

due to the inherent conflict in konqueror between these two disparate use 
cases we have some things that embed sometimes and some that don't other 
times, some that do all the time, some that never do. bah humbug =)
