He can. That's the whole point here, really: In Kubuntu it IS possible to
mount and unmount devices in /media the context menu. Some stuff, that you
could do with media:/ might still be missing, but then simply more work needs
to be done there.
media:/ is a flawed abstraction layer that actually does *not* just work but
isn't fully compatible in lots of situations. It's exactly the kind of
abstraction that makes KDE harder to use for several people instead of more
user friendly. To be fair media:/ served it's purpose for a time, but if
mounting and unmounting can be done in the 'normal' /media place, there isn't
much reason for media:/ to stay around.
