But then, any not KDE app wouldn't show the translated name, but the original 
English name. This could be confusing when the user tries to save a document 
from a Gtk dialog.

Or maybe they could be read too by non-KDE apps?

The life would be easier without Gnome and Gtk apps, but unfortunatelly they 
exist :(
