There *have* been user surveys of KDE done in the past 5 to 6 years.  Just 
because you havnt seen them, they havnt been published on the DOT, they havnt 
been conducted by the KDE Usability project or by the e.V. does not deny 
their existence.  For example, I know that the University of Maryland's HCI 
Lab did a user survey on KDE 1-2 years ago.

User's opinion or your opinion?  We have to design and implement for the 
mean/average, not for the few people who are louder than everyone else.

This was a survey of developers and usability specialists for a document to be 
used by developers and usability specialists.
