One of the problems that has been identified is:

* how do I tell someone who knows their stuff from everyone else,

*and who has been around for a while and made useful contributions from 
someone who joined the list yesterday and will likely leave it again 
tomorrow.


Could I suggest that we borrow an idea that the gnome guys use on bugzilla:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/page.cgi?id=points.html

It is really helpful being able to distinguish comments and reports by 
people who have been around for a while and who have made useful 
contributions.
