With the advent of Plasma, one could apply a similar reasoning to the
decision to lump special buttons in with applets: Special buttons are
really just a "type" of applet... at least from a user's perspective.
This goes hand in hand with the train of thought that an icon in
Plasma is still a plasmoid.

I don't quite understand this part. Could one of you elaborate on what
you're talking about? Are you talking about adding an application
launching button?
