Hello,
while lookin through some old bug reports of mine I stubled updon this one:
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=86683
This is about a fade to black effect before a screensaver starts.
This way when the time is up so that the screensaver should start the screen
would slowly - over some seconds (max 5) - become dimmer and finally fade to
a full black. Then the actual screensaver starts.
This way the user will not be interrupted while for example reading something
when the screen saver kicks in. Normally he would face a black screen
instantly and only moving the mosue would drop him back to his desktop,
effectively loosing any focus he might have had at a vertain text passage or
on screen element.
With the fade to black change this would not happen. When the screen slowly
starts to fade everything will still be readable for a while and the user
will notice it before loosing his or her focus. He might then bump the mouse
or press a key to stop the screensaver and keep his concentration on what he
was doing.
Am I missing something here usability wise? From all I can tell this should be
a good improvement over current behaviour.
Cheers,
Chris
