Sorry for the crosspost, but I think this is relevant to all the lists ... I have recently downloaded the full kde 3.4 release, together with the italian i18n files. Browsing the konqueror setting panels, I have found that the stylesheet page is larger than my 1280x1024 screen, due to the fact that the "font family" and "Font size" groups are in an horizontal group, abd the italian translation are quite a bit longer than the english originals. I am aware that recently people spent quite an effort to have the kcontrol panels fit in the 800x600 screen, but I think that english is not a good language to use to check the layout, since it is known that most languages require longer strings on the average. Shouldn't we try to check the layout with a language with longer strings, just to offer the translators a bit of slack? I think there was a "fake" language wit "xxx" prepended / appended, maybe that could be a good starting point. For the italian translation, another problem is that the labels for the icon panel on the left side are quite a bit longer than the original, in general. Allowing two lines of text in the icon panel would help that a lot.
