old school, not modern or common on the desktop so i wouldn't count this.

developer apps, i'm not particularly concerned about them.

that would be good =)

but Desktop, public_html are fine AFAIC. ~/Mail needs to go, i've got a patch
under consideration by the kdepim team to do so). in fact, i'd like to see a
link there to devices and whatnot. you can't simply count the number of
entries and measure against that number, you need to count the number of
uncessary entries.

simply relocating to ~/Documents or ~/Desktop isn't a solution, since we'll
end up with the same problems there (we already do in ~/Desktop) and then
we'll have to explain to people why they have a ~/ though we encourage them
to stay in ~/<something> ... these days, we hide the root fs from most users
because they don't need to see that and its confusing/noisy for them. let's
not remake the mistake of creating a hierarchy they need to understand and
deal with by doing strange things in ~.

the software IS fixable. but only if we make the right decisions now as
opposed to working around our current shortcomings and creating new issues in
the process.
