Right now my system tray is 13 icons (klipper, korganizer, kgpg, kscd, kmix,
kopete, kget, Komposè, aKregator, juK, konversation, kwallet, and KeepIt). As
you can notice, the number of apps using this small part of the desktop is
growing, and the numbers are getting so scary that I might have to buy a new
30" monitor just to have enough space for them ;)

I wonder if I missed any usability studies on this, but it would be nice to
know how my own app should behave in this sense. It would be nice to decide
and standardize when, how or why apps should show a systray icon. Maybe some
common technology is needed too. And also how to tidy this mess with so many
apps using it.

Some apps need you pushing one button to show that icon, some other (lots)
create it when you close the window. Some even alert you when you try to
close it and it goes to the system tray.

I personally, rather have it when minimizing, since most apps seem to use it
that way, to get rid of the main window and show the status there. And then
use x to close it.

So.. any studies on this?

Regards,

	Unai
