s/replace/offer an alternative in place of/ ?
pen Source world there is no need to "replace" a project.
Eye candy does not always make for greater usability. This is the
last thing on my list of desired features for KDE. Kwin is just
fine graphically, needs some minor _functional_ enhancements.
One reason I liked E16 was it started adding advanced features
that are very useful.
To be truthful, I find eye-candy mostly annoying. Rarely it can be
helpful, but mostly is just distracting. I don't like zooming icons
or fading menus for instance. Don't care for blinking cursors.
Transparency is slightly useful but I end up taking time turning
off a great deal of these features.

I don't mean to be a party-pooper, but I'm not wowed by all this.
If I try to keep an open mind: sure do make it pretty, but what
about the more functional aspects, I think they deserve more of a
mention.
Believe it or not: KDE doesn't appeal to me because it offers a new
theme or icon set, or looks really pretty, it's because it has real
functionality that I find useful.
