Well I don't think it will be a great idea.
Or better....it's a good idea but I think that we don't need to copy this 
behaviour of OSX, in KDE there are apps with a similar behaviour, you 
mentioned them, system tray applications, IMHO we need to enhance their 
behaviour, making them a different type of program and interacting with them 
with their systray icon, for example you can access them only by clicking on 
the icon, no taskbar entry, if the app is minimized a click gets it on 
foreground, another click makes it disappear, and if the window is in 
background a click gets it on top, the system tray icon could blink or use 
some zoom effect to indicate that the app is loaded (someone pointed out that 
most people don't notice when an app is loaded into systray)
Don't you think this could be better than implementing a so particular 
function of OSX
