Hi

I am in no way an official spokesperson for KDE and only involved in the
usability effort from a tangential point of view. So perheaps it makes sense
to contact one of the official representatives, if you have plans of working
with KDE. ( http://www.kde.org/contact/representatives.php )

To answer your question, there is a nice collaboration with a german usability
company going on.

The integration of professional usability efforts is just starting IMHO.
Usability is a process, as you know better than I do ;) I think we are just
at a starting point. There seems to be a big interest in improving KDE's
usability, but at the moment, I think, we lack more scientific input to
convince people where the areas for improvements are.

I think it would be a nice idea to build a community of scientificly and
commercially interested people to find common technologies needed in KDE to
provide everything needed to collect usability data. Together with a common
process for collecting and presenting the results, convincing developers
about the possible improvements is much easier. Another point is the
avoidance of doubled efforts.

There was quite some interest on CeBIT 2004 and the upcoming KDE Community
World Summit ( http://events.kde.org/info/conference2004/ ) may be a good
place to meet and discuss.

These are my opinions though ;) As I said above, perheaps it may be a nice
idea to contact the European official contact to syncronize stuff ;)

Greetings
		Rainer
