Would it be possible to treat this as follows: - On directory opening, don't check if thumbnails need updating. - On a refresh check if they need to be updated. Check if they need to be updated with a hashing algorithm, so you can tell if it is the same picture or not. I know some of the less-perfect hashing algorithms can work extremely fast.
