We can have a drop down box below "What's This" which will say select "Basic Mode", "Advanced Mode" and "Administrator Mode". Advanced Mode - Same as present proposed kcontrol. Basic Mode - Not many options. Like under heading Look and Feel we can have 1. Background 2. Screen Saver 3. Theme 4. Splash Screen 5. Panel 6. Icons. In background kcm of basic mode, blending and gradient configurations should be removed. Similarly, for icons the advanced tab should be removed. As far as theme is concerned, a user can change windows decoration, colour settings and style, but instead for a newbie there should be some 5-6 themes selecting which should change all window decoration, colours and style(the idea is somewhat similar to theme kcm that was in KDE 2.x, but that time theme kcm was very bad). Administrative Mode - SuSE supplies YaST, mandrake has drakconf. A user uses KControl for desktop related settings and for install remove software, configuring apache/ftp/firewall etc uses YaST. KControl can be very extendible by providing various modes(administrative mode) where a user can find more "System" specific configuration stuff then "User" specific. YaST kcm's, and various other kcontol modules for configuring ftpd/system services/package installation/firewall can be included in this section. IMO atleast basic mode should be there or there should be something like KControl-lite. -- Nilesh Bansal http://www.cse.iitb.ac.in/nilesh/ _______________________________________________ kde-usability mailing list kde-usability@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kde-usability
