Here are a few suggestions I have for improving the usability of Konqueror,
with special reference to toolbars. Currently I am using 3.1.94, so forgive
me if any of these issues have already been resolved. Some of them might be
issues of my ignorance rather than KDE. Understand that I am not
complaining, but just trying to stimulate discussion on how KDE can be more
effective.

- In Konqueror, when switching to full-screen mode, there is no
straight-forward way to switch back. The only way I know is CTRL-SHIFT-F,
and if you don't know this ahead of time, you're SOL. This could be solved
by dynamically adding the full-screen toggle button to the toolbar when
switching to full-screen if it is not already in the toolbar, and then
removing it when switching back. This may have been implemented in the past,
but in my current version it is nonexistant.

- Speaking of toolbars, what is the sense of allowing toolbar buttons of
actions for which no icons exist? The default "piece of paper" icon is not
very informative. Either these actions shouldn't be allowed in the toolbar,
or the icons should be customizable. Anyway, there already exist icons that
could be meaningfully associated with a lot of these actions, eg "History."
OK this is more of a kdelibs issue than a konq issue.

- The "History" action, by the way, does nothing AFAIK. It should IMO pop up
the history sidepane, unless it has some other esoteric use that I am not
aware of.

- "ActionLists" should be available for adding as well as removing in the
toolbars. It is always frustrating to remove something and not be able to
put it back.

- Now I will address the baffling subject of Konqueror plugins. You know..
Babelfish / W3 Validators / User Agent Identification. I am at a total loss
as to why these plugins all list their own "toolbars" in the toolbar config
dialog. Especially since there is no method (or reason) to activate these
"toolbars." I understand the point of them adding their own actions to the
action list. The problem is ... when you add these actions to your toolbar,
they don't show up! Try it. Put the "User Agent Identification" in your
toolbar.

Enough for now,
Luke Sandell
