Why? One of them has to be the default one. Problems: =2D Ask in your office how many people know the windows explorer is the int= ernet=20 explorer. They don't. People are task oriented. If they want to browse the= =20 internet, they open a web browser. If they decide to manage files, they fir= e=20 up a file manager. - The "dancing application" is a ui nightmare: you confuse the menu and=20 toolbar items from the two views: if they have different menus, toolbars an= d=20 configuration, why are they the same application? =2D Sometimes the task of managing files and browsing the web is confused a= nd=20 mix. In this scenario, ie makes sure you can't handle the strange cases. Advantages: - You end up with only one capable web browser "brand". - You find a way to work with specialized interfaces even for tabs open in= =20 the same instance of the application. By switching the tap, you switch the= =20 interface. (Is this really an advantage? I don't think so.) > I think=20 > Konqueror already does this, but it doesn't do it enough. I know Internet Explorer is rubbish, but in visu= al > terms, it isn't so bad. I think differently. If you are a regular user you don't care about computers, you want the job= =20 done. For this users, why not two "stable" interfaces (even if it is the sa= me=20 technology behind the scenes) with two different brands? If you are a power user, you can handle the heavy user interface. Konqueror= is=20 _excellent_ for this kind of use today. You have learning gains by keeping= =20 the same interface for all views. Imagine the configuration options, the=20 menus and the toolbars changing _totally_ after switching tabs. I mean, tod= ay=20 Konqueror acts a bit like it, but it _adds_ stuff. The things it has on=20 default _stay_. And that is great usability wise. --Boundary-02=_VaYCANlVAcvOCZj Content-Type: application/pgp-signature Content-Description: signature -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.3 (GNU/Linux) iQEVAwUAQAmGlVNpZlvyzT++AQJuOgf+OnPYn1/qt6I1+W8H1iPvhMWC1ChaNuZx ieBqLw3xXA+QY2naLVRAp7Nm2UAOR4wrqw3x/bQmkKRLkEFpeJyibIwHqoP0lOQF ZyqAh9e7mws6VWdW/IYkLgXZ0GvjeP+1bK0K/8TGdF4YwdrwEfX4voMBEQfbZSH6 hYF5RQikoxYyMV8sz8pN5LYU6nsHwuFX20g1G+2tPPkBsfjXP6Soc+CLI3QxXyTo sr7t0XOEniTfidD3g1Ro7kr9Gp2HFXLFu+xak6lQ9z2+3qc6KDL9cs4FsAt+kWmA N5nkXGhgAQXZJGwbtULElemDn4mZQD2CymlWD0gAfbsoGkMIx3I9xA== =vqrc -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --Boundary-02=_VaYCANlVAcvOCZj-- --===============0121950020== Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline _______________________________________________ kde-usability mailing list kde-usability@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kde-usability --===============0121950020==--
