So a real directory can never be a folder? That seems odd. The point of
vfolders etc. is to extend the folder metaphor to be usable even when
stuff isn't grouped in an actual directory. If we don't use the folder
metaphor when stuff is in a directory, then how will users come to know
the metaphor?

I suggest that we leave "directory" as a filesystem concept for those
who know (TM) and call them "folders" for normal users.
