Why? The problem is then the descriptions, not to use the descriptions.
I'm currently using Description (Name), and I love it. Why? Because I
don't know what the hell things like noatun, kaboodle, kate, kedit,
wkrite, kugar, kit or koota is about until I've started them and used
them a couple of times.
Since names in KDE tend to start with a k, this makes things worse, as
the hotkey feature (pressing the first letter of something in a menu)
won't be of much help.
In addition, sorting by description would group together programs in a
category that basically does the same thing. That way, users would be
encouraged to try all of them instead of just sticking with the one
he first discovered as a media player.
The problem is that some of the descriptions that are way to long (more
mouseover-like descriptions than in-menu descriptions), and that would
be easily fixed.
Btw, what's the difference between kde-usability@mail.kde.org and
kde-usability@kde.org? Why do both addresses work, and why don't the
mailinglist software remove duplicate references?
