files that are automagically handled by the apps should be kept out of the way 
of the user: they didn't create them, they don't necessarily know what they 
are for, they don't need to deal with them... 

the exception is backing up... backing up your entire home directory is good 
enough. but perhaps a KDE data backup tool might be nice, perhaps as a 
project type in K3B

k3b should probably burn hidden directories by default. wishlist item at bugs.
