Very nice Ralph!

we could have problems with that background image. Think if "All applications" 
area could be under the kde-gear. Will be the gear image in "Quickstar Menu" 
area? Is difficoult to read too and the color could change by user settings.

You could use white background o system color (like the same used for "All 
applications".
