Konqueror isn't threaded.  The memory saving settings controls whether each 
Konqueror window gets its own process or not.

Besides, I suspect that your delay is caused by the UI side of things.  
Populating a listview or whichever view you use and/or probing mime-types 
and KFileMetaInfo.

OK, then can you please demonstrate how one default is better than the 
other for KDE users?

You've more than once raised the point of people who don't use KDE.  Is it 
your point that KDE must forever be tied to what other environments do, 
instead of picking the best settings overall?  What happens if different 
environments work in different ways?
