Apple has 2 "features" that help this situation. 

One they do not change  window focus on the start of the drag. This was a 
great change they made somewhere around MacOS 7. Basically people arrange 
their windows so they can see the source and destination before starting, 
currently in KDS when the source is clicked that window pops up changing the

arrangement and possibly obscuring the destination. By not altering the
focus 
until the drop this problem is avoided.
