Actually, I've been using Mac OS X on an old PowerMac 9600 (sluggish but mostly useable) the last few days and I haven't found the Dock's behaviour that bad. New icons on the panel (i.e. started an app) bounce up and down so that you notice they've been added. And it even has keyboard switching between active applications similar to Windows/KDE/whatever using Cmd-Tab. I'm having quite a lot of fun playing around with it. Although I must admit I haven't tried doing any serious work on it.
