X-MARC-Message: https://marc.info/?l=kde-usability&m=102776298601070 Hello! My favourite kicker-layout is similar to that of gordon. http://www.inode.at/mhofer/kde-usability/kicker_layout.png Computer-screens are usually bigger in width than in height (4 : 3) - but= most=20 standard applications (web-browsing, word-processing, kmail,....) need ab= ove=20 all more vertical space. Just look at your most used programs - much more= =20 vertical than horizontal scrollbars.... Why make the problem worse and reduce the available height through a fat=20 kicker at the bottom of the screen? I think it would be much better to pu= t it=20 on the left side and leave only a small taskbar at the bottom. It's a bit unusual and needs some time to get used to it - but all in all= I=20 think it's a better solution than the current default. The newsticker seems to take much space away from the taskbar (and could = be=20 left away) - but with multiple desktops, and showing only the application= s of=20 the current desktop on the taskbar, this hardly ever gets a problem. In my opinion it should be default to show only applications from the cur= rent=20 desktop on the taskbar because it seems more logical to me. I think of th= e=20 desktops as independent workspaces, on each workspace applications that=20 belong together in some way (surfing and e-mailing on one desktop, creati= ng=20 graphics with the gimp on another, writing office documents on the=20 third,...). When switching to another desktop I want to start something "= new"=20 and don't need the "old" applications by hand in the taskbar. There shouldn't be as many mini-apps and applets as default as in my=20 screenshot, because they may confuse the user, but the overall layout cou= ld=20 work fine this way: [K-Menu] (top, left - where most people look first) [Desktop show/hide] [Control-Center] [Home-Dir] [Konqueror] [KMail] [SPACE (other progs?)] [Help] --------- [Desktop switching] --------- [Mini-Apps / Systray] (kmix, klipper, knotes, mail-notification,...) --------- [Clock] | [Taskbar] | [Screen-Lock / Logout] (bottom right, opposite of K= Menu) Just my opinion - servus, Michael _______________________________________________ kde-usability mailing list kde-usability@mail.kde.org http://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kde-usability
