the button needs to be turned off by default IMHO ... a better default kicker
setup, IMO, would be, in order:
KMenu
KOffice menu (menu, not individual apps)
Desktop show/hide
Help
Konsole
Home (link, not an app)
Web
Pager (w/2 desktops only)
Taskbar (sans window button, set to group on being filled, show windows on all
desktops)
System tray
using a "normal" sized kicker the buttons would take up ~290 pixels. on
800x600 this leaves 510 pixels for the pager and taskbar. the pager, showing
two desktops, takes ~35 pixels. this leaves ~470 pixels for the pager. lots
of room. one could probably make it 350 pixels wide and leave a 120 pixel gap
between the buttons and the applets. one might even be tempted to use up
another 75 or so pixels and through a clock on there (i wouldn't though =)
i believe this strikes a happy medium between spartan and featureful. it takes
into consideration the number of desktops new users usually find comfortable
dealing with and works nicely on 800x600 w/room to spare!
