this would probably be a generally better approach as it wouldn't have widgets 
doing "double duty"... a way to reconcile the smtp server would be to simply 
seperate it from the rest... 

something like:

 [x] Enable submission via SMTP
 
  [ the smtp server settings ]

 (o) Use email address from control center <-- make that a link?
        [ qlabel showing what those settings actually are ]
 ( ) Use a different email address
        [widgets allowing you to define this]


btw, i realize we are spending waaaaay lots of time on this little feature, 
but i think the things we learn here (including the various way to go about 
something) can be applied over and over again.

[1] i say "appears" because i haven't compiled it, just looked at the 
screenshot
