Since I am extremely sick of the mechanically inferior (and always broken
after a year or so) VCRs, I've also looked for software to record things on
my PC using a Hauppauge TV tuner card. I've found this:
http://dvr.sourceforge.net/
It works OK (although the software feels very unfinished and there are some
problems), the only thing is that when you record to, for example, DiVX, you
need a very fast computer. My 450 Mhz certainly isn't fast enough to have
encode using an acceptable resolution.
