We're not really on a quest to "improve the K-Menu".  What we're REALLY trying 
to do is to make it easier to find and start applications.

I posted this about 2 months ago with a suggestion to implement it.  
Unfortunately I couldn't learn my KDE3 code fast enough to fill my two days 
of vacation and therefore this suggestion was left sort of forgotten.

Here are a couple of PNG links to the images.  It's a sort of "Application 
Sorting" on the Panel.  It's similar to a KMenu but instead it contains only 
the apps that relate to a particular task, like "Office" or "Multimedia".

In this example I put all of the KOffice apps in one place so we don't waste 
all this space putting every app on the panel whether they're used often or 
not.
