the challenge is that multiple windows is a power user thing. a single dialog 
with changing contents seems to be more manageable for less sophisticated 
users, at least according to my observations.

if you want seperate windows, just select them from the Preferences menu. 
(which is what i usually do =)

i'll have to go to my friend's place and take a look ....

but i think it is too early to start this part of it... the form of the dialog 
would probably benefit from knowing the function of its constituent parts.
