Hi all!

(1)
I just thought of something: it is obvious that many programmers don't spend
much time on usability (no blame intended). There might be many different
reasons, including that they just don't care, but if they do care and want to
make their application more usable, they still need to get information on
how to do it better somewhere.

How about a section on the website that behaves a bit like a forum, but also a
bit like an issue tracker, where developers can post questions (along with UI
files maybe) directed towards the usability people. Something along the line
of "I'm trying to make this dialog, it should contain these elements, what
would be a good way to do the layout?" or "What's your opinion on this
issue?". We then get back at them, with comments and maybe with attached UI
files.

Also, I've been thinking about how the users can interact with us at the
moment (who are not subscribed to this list). We have the infrastructure for
the usability reports, but the issues must be compiled together by the report
maintainers. There should be some easier way for users to submit these
issues.

So, we probably do need some kind of issue tracker ala Bugzilla, but much
simpler, where everyone can post their issues, and the report maintainers can
gather them together there and compile the reports. I don't think the current
way (users send email to the report maintainers) works.

Another way would be to add some kind of "feedback form" on the website where
people can select an application from the list, describe the issue, and
submit. This would then send it to the report maintainer by e-mail.
It's not very different from sending an e-mail directly, but maybe a bit more
straight-forward to users.

What do you think?

Best regards,
