An interesting example that people may want to look at for a real-life version 
of plugins and stuff is to download a copy of MS Internet Explorer and a 
bunch of plugins for it including the Microsoft Office viewers and the Adobe 
Acrobat viewers.

You'll notice that in most of these plugins, there are no changes in menus.  
However they offer a toolbar that offers the primary read-only functionality 
for a file of that type.  The example I remember is Adobe Acrobat's browsing 
buttons and the print button.  (Unfortunately I haven't tried using MSIE's 
native print versus the Toolbar print in Adobe).

Now, mind you that I am not suggesting that it is THE RIGHT way to do things.  
However, it may serve as a good example of how other people have done things, 
and therefore offers another perspective that we may be able to integrate and 
criticize for KDE and KParts.
