You have to recompile libz with --enable-shared or whatever option they have 
to get shared libs. Or you can download the precompiled libs from my site or 
any other.
Most of the need nonkde libs, and also zlib, don't have the .la files where 
the location of the lib is given. So you can move them more easily to other 
locations.
