4 months without a release ? or do you expect 4 months of weekly snapshot
releases to appear?

eh. when do you expect people to test beta1 and fix beta2? doing the last
public beta in the first week of the year (so I have to tag it around December
29th, and even worse, find somebody online to fix it) is just unreasonable. In
addition, you'll find zero to none distro packagers being around that time.

two weeks for public beta is too short. 3-4 weeks is minimum for a new beta to
catch ground and collect useful feedback.
