We purposely omitted
BR: xmms-devel
due to it also pulling in glib/gtk+ (v1) runtime stack. (and trying to 
keep runtime dependencies as small as possible for our cd-sized kde live 
image).

I was afraid you'd say that.  Any suggestion how to pull in kde-4.1.2 from 
updates testing without all the other stuff in updates-testing?

You could try something like:
yum --enablerepo=updates-testing-newkey groupupdate kde-desktop

Right, you're conficting with older stuff you installed from 
kde-redhat/unstable.  Either update both at the same time or 
(temporarily) uninstall the conflicting bits.
